Privacy Policy

Last updated October 2026

AlloyTrader ("we", "us") runs an online marketplace for buying and selling alloy wheels in Ireland. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and your rights under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Irish Data Protection Acts 1988–2018.

1. Data we collect

  • Account details: email address, display name and password (stored hashed), or your Google account name and email if you sign in with Google.
  • Profile details (optional): phone number and county.
  • Ads: photos, descriptions, wheel specifications, price, town and county.
  • Messages you send to and receive from other users.
  • Technical data: sign-in session tokens and basic logs needed to keep the service running and secure.

2. Why we use it (legal basis)

  • To provide your account, publish your ads and deliver messages — performance of a contract.
  • To prevent fraud, scams and abuse, and keep the site secure — legitimate interests.
  • To meet legal obligations, such as responding to lawful requests from authorities.

We do not sell your personal data and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

3. What other users can see

Your display name, ads, town and county are public. The phone number in your account settings is private. A phone number is shown only on an ad where you choose to add one. Your email address is never shown publicly. Ad photos can only be opened while they belong to a published ad.

4. Who processes your data

We use trusted cloud providers for hosting, database, file storage and sign-in (including Google for Google sign-in). They process data only on our instructions. Where data is transferred outside the EEA, it is protected by appropriate safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

5. How long we keep it

We keep your account data while your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, ads, photos and messages, except where we must keep limited records for legal or fraud-prevention reasons.

6. Security

Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Access rules ensure only you can edit your ads and profile, and only the people in a conversation can read its messages. Ad photos are stored privately and shown through time-limited links.

7. Your rights

You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to processing of your data, and to receive a copy of it (data portability). To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below. You also have the right to complain to the Data Protection Commission (dataprotection.ie).

8. Cookies

We use only essential browser storage to keep you signed in and remember things like ads you've already viewed. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

9. Contact

For privacy questions or requests, contact us at privacy@alloytrader.ie.

10. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. We'll post the new version here and update the date above.
